Better than charity

Let's explore unique, fun, and impactful ways to support your favorite causes and give back.

Charity.

Most of us would say, "I will do it when I have a lot of money and there will be plenty to go around."

I believe that money just amplifies the kind of person you are, and if you don't do it now, you won't do it ever.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

In living my everyday life, encountering some everyday things, I've thought of creative ways to give back.

You know the difference between a simple gift but given as a surprise versus announcing that you're going to give a brand new laptop to someone and give a phone instead?

Creativity plays a very big role in gift giving.

When people say they want to give back, first thing you think of is to give to charity. I think if we were to create a list, it would be the least priority.

My priority goes...

  1. Family
  2. Family helpers - house helpers, drivers, who serve you every single day
  3. Friends
  4. Those in need who are close to us - even acquaintances
  5. There should be another line here before strangers
  6. Strangers you never met (charity)

That #5 is what this list is all about. Creative ways to "give" money.

My goal here is to match things with people who are in actual need, and who would value what you have to offer.

  • Leave extra credits in arcade machines
  • Send random amounts to random numbers
  • Sell stuff on the marketplace for free
  • Buy books that changed your life and leave them in public places
  • Create a game show and invite service workers to play for free, for a chance to win. This way, the one who needs it the most should exert the most effort, and they should get rewarded the most
  • Join Facebook groups of those people who are sick, and send them the medicines that they need
  • Buy stuff and sell them at half the price. This way, only those that really need it would claim it.
  • Buy second-hand stuff from those who really need the money as their RFS. Then repost the stuff at half the price.
  • Buy cheap second-hand laptops and donate them to those who are doing very well in school.
  • Setup a gym that people can use for free. Pay a full-time coach that can offer an exercise program for free, or classes for free.
  • Free lessons on personal finance
